We’ve been asked for this for a long time, and it’s finally here: Party Knights is now available on iOS too! 🎉

This could actually have happened back in late 2023, but Apple threw us a curveball: for years now, the App Store has, as a matter of principle, stopped accepting new drinking game apps. It’s even spelled out explicitly in the App Review Guidelines under 4.3 (b) “Spam”. Particularly innovative drinking game apps do get approved in rare exceptions, but as long as you rely on the tried-and-tested card game format like we do, that’s not enough.

We tried arguing our case in all sorts of ways, but unfortunately got nowhere. Meanwhile, the often mediocre drinking game apps already in the App Store have it easy:
not updated in years, few cards, tons of ads, most content locked behind paywalls, bad spelling and grammar, sometimes outright wrong facts, no legal notice, no privacy policy… and yet they don’t have to worry about any competition. It’s a real shame, because in terms of scope, customization, and quality, Party Knights is simply, objectively better than a lot of the existing apps out there - and it’s free and ad-free on top of that!

By now, though, there’s a solution: alternative app stores. Thanks to the EU’s DMA (Digital Markets Act), Apple was required to allow alternative app stores. That gave us the chance to bring Party Knights to iOS without being subject to the App Store’s restrictive spam guidelines.

The best-known alternative app store for iOS is AltStore PAL. You can easily download and install Party Knights there. The whole thing only takes a few minutes and is safe too, since both AltStore PAL and Party Knights are still checked for security by Apple (just no longer for content, for example).
